This is part of the water supply system, which was built in the 1500.  One of the Air Vents associated with this systems can be found at WS XXX.

This is the fountain that provided the water from 1684 to 1872 at a nearby location before being moved to Castle Road.  It was then rebuilt in Castle Road in 1886 and was in use until 1964.
