This structure was built between 28th May 1997 and 31st December 1897 for a cost of £924.
From a contemporary image, held by the National Archives, the structure of the hut has changed little.
The hut provided a large men’s room, with accommodation for 22 men, and a small NCO Room in one corner. The Lavatory is in the same location as it is now, the small building against the cliff. Adjacent to this was the cookhouse and then entrance to the cave. The cave was used as a magazine and there was a water tank just inside the gate.
