From maps it would appear that this battery, and the adjacent Lower Catalan Battery were in use during the latter half of the 18th Century.

From armament returns made in 1859 and 1886 there is no mention of any Catalan Battery.

The position was used to mount a Bofors Anti Aircraft gun with predictor during World War 2.

The location remains in good condition, although a little difficult to reach.
