Posted on December 26, 2015 / 669
Zone : Upper Rock
poi type : Gun Battery
Location :
Condition : Fair

WWII – 4th Heavy Battery consisted of two 4-inch guns covering the beaches on the East side, with shelter for troops dug into the rock behind the guns. The guns have been removed.

This location was used extensively during the Victorian period with a QF Battery, and even earlier smoothbore guns.  Behind there is a series of Position Finding Stations for the 9.2-ins guns.  These are all recorded under separate cover.
