Initial plans shows this Battery was name Farringdons Battery but this was changed to Farrington.
Plans show that the battery was authorised in 1877 and work commenced the following year. The Battery was completed on 23rd June 1879 and mount two 9 inch 12 ton R.M.L. guns.
In later years one of the gun emplacements would appear to have been used as a fixed beam searchlight position.
This is a relatively unique Victorian Battery, heavy duty concrete with a large ‘ear’ to protect the battery from incoming fire.
