
It seems that during WW2 there was a lack of building materials such as breeze blocks or bricks. The building substitute was iron tins filled with concrete. At least three pillboxes on the Rock were built with the oil can blocks. This site had a number of tin blocks on a hut base, building unknown. Small graffiti on rock on edge of road shows the date of 1944.
