UR7 Breakneck Battery Gibraltar

This is a 9.2 ins Battery is a Mark X   on a Mark V mounting.  The original gun shield remains, under a later extended shield which was built over it.

 

Building of the position commenced on 20th September 1902 and the battery was completed on 19th January 1905.  The battery has extensive underground works, which were steadily expanded.  The cartridge stores, which is still in good condition, could hold 300 rounds (600 half charges).  There are three rope hoists to bring cartridges up to the gun level from the cartridge store.  The shell store could hold 300 projectiles.  The crew shell was build adjacent to the Shell store.
